This spectacular limited edition "Braniff Blue" Braniff International Boeing 707 airliner model is truly a beautiful work of airline model art!Braniff International Airways was one of the first airlines to order the Boeing 707 and was also the only customer for the special version designed for use at hot and high altitude airports. Until April 1965, Braniff had a lvery based on a patriotic red, white and blue scheme. However, the appoinment of Harding L. Lawrence as the airline's new chairman completely revolutionized the airline. Lawrence believed that bright and interesting color schemes enhanced passenger appeal and elected to paint the entire Braniff fleet in different colors, originally seven, and later nine pastel shades.
N7099 was one of the airline's fleet of Boeing 707-327C's to adopt this new vibrant scheme and was delivered to Braniff on July 27th 1966 in the medium blue and white scheme shown on this model. N7099 gave reliable service until being sold in October of 1972 to the Lebanese cargo airline, Trans Mediterranean Airways, becoming OD-AFY. It was damaged beyond repair while landing in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on July 26th 1993.
