Because table and shelf spaces were usually in short supply, most shipyard models from around the 1900s were made as wall models. Harland & Wolff, the Belfast shipyard famous for building the Titanic, were responsible for the first half models mounted on a mirror, which then tricked the eye into seeing a full model embedded into the wall. You have to see it to believe it, since it doesn’t show well on a picture. The Tug is a model of the London Tug “Rana”, (Latin for “frog”); it was built in 1950 and became a familiar sight in the London dockyards for many years.
