This fun 12" by 3 1/4" reproduction vintage Railroad Station Platform Sign reads " SPITTING on stations, platforms and approaches, being a misdemeanor, is punishable by $500 fine, a year in prison, or both.!" Signed by the Sanitary Code Sec. 194, Penal Code Sec. 15, by order Board of Health! This enameled sign is created using the same process popularized in the early 1900's. The colors are not applied as paint, instead they are finely ground glass crystals which, when kiln fired at 1350 degrees F, fuse to a heavy steel plate. Each color is applied and fired separately, creating a durable, lustrous and rust resistant product.
